Design House RI Showroom Tour with Lindsay Miley

Looking to visualize your dream house interior? Ken tours Design House with Lindsay Miley — a 3,500 sq. ft. Portsmouth showplace filled with countertops, cabinets, furniture, fabrics, wallpapers and so much more. We’ve enjoyed working with Design House’s team on all types of projects ranging from small jobs to whole home renovations.

Point #1: Interior Designers Don't Need to Cost a Lot of Money

Ken Fain - Owner, Island Carpet: Lindsay, what do you say to people who are nervous of spending a lot of money?

Lindsay Miley: Selections Design Coordinator & Interior Designer, Design House RI: That's a common misconception of interior designers—that we cost so much money. If you just want to freshen up a space, you'll be spending what you want to spend. We can still help give you some vision and inspiration.

Point #2: Using Mood Boards to Plan Design

Ken: Lindsay, what a great workspace this is. I'm used to seeing concept board, but these are almost pre-concept boards.

Lindsay: We call them our mood boards. Each board represents a different room in the house—kids bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and more. You can look at fabrics, what's going on your couch, your area rugs, window treatment fabrics. That allows us to get things exactly to what the client likes.

Ken: So they'd come right in this room and they could see exactly what's planned. I'd be very impressed.

Lindsay: That's why this room is so fun. We have so many different fabrics and wallpapers to choose from.

Point #3: Huge Retail Space at Design House RI

Lindsay: A lot of interior designers don't have the retail space that we have here.

Ken: Just in your tile room, I see plumbing fixtures, floor tile, mosaic tile, a selection of countertop slabs. It's easy to figure out a whole concept for both kitchens and bathrooms.

In the video at the top of the page, Ken and Lindsay also take a look at a bedroom scene, an office, a kitchen and more—touring Design House's entire 3,500 sq.ft. space. During Ken's video tour, we see everything from cabinets, built-ins, drawer and cabinet pulls, furniture and more.

Point #4: Sister Companies with JPS Construction & Design Inc.

Lindsay: We're also sister companies with a design build, which is JPS Construction & Design Inc. Jamie Stebenne is our owner—he owns both of our companies. That really helps us get into the contractor and construction world. We have everyone from the architect team to the project managers onsite and all the subs out there in the field.
